Gehard Demetz (IT) - Hitler and Mao

Galleria Rubin presents the italian sculptor from South Tirol, Gehard Demetz, whose most original and poetic works have already been successfully shown at ArtCologne and ArtFrankfurt. This is his first participation in a Berlin event. The proposal consists of 2 bodies of works: A) Sculptures related to the individual memory, conveying concerns for education and more specifically discipline, uniforms, coercion and punishment (the belt). B) Sculptures related to a collective memory as exemplified by historic personalities represented as children: J.F.K. (“ich bin ein Berliner”), Hitler and Mao (Berlin and Beijing). Overall, the artist’s scope is to create for the viewer a convincing and magic confrontation with our historical past, our roots, our childhood and who we eventually grow up to become as adults.
