Tobias Köbsch´s “Holiday Inn” is a block of sedimentary layers that consist of matchbox cars. The automobile - the embodiment of mobility - is treated as sediment. The embodiment of mobility becomes the embodiment of immobility. Instead of normal sedimentary stratification, a single homogenous sediment block made of pressed automobiles is shown. Cultural, geological or geographical differentiations are not recognizable. Matchbox cars become pure painting – eliminated of all definitions and associations.
