Anne Metzen (D) - STANDARD EURO

Launched in 1997 under the title “STANDARD EURO” was an endeavor devoted to researching and systematizing everyday phenomena and daily world affairs under the aspects of standardization, scaling, and formalization. The painstaking investigations and process-oriented archival activities of Berlin artist Anne Metzen find their expression in art images, in objects, as well as in a perpetually expanding, cumulative installation, the archive STANDARD EURO. Emerging from the sum of investigations of simple individual observations is a complex conceptual space which incorporates both receivers and the surrounding situation. On the occasion of the PREVIEW BERLIN 09, STANDARD EURO will make an appearance in the form of a temporary self-contained unit. Representing the system as a whole will be the category “flying objects” and a video work on airport departure lounge. Aspects and stations of PREVIEW BERLIN 09 will be preserved as part of the archive.
